Queretaro has a new women's flag football team, Gallos Negros Flag Femenil, which was introduced at the Queretaro Olympic Stadium. The team consists of 15 players and their first test will be the National Tournament in Guadalajara, on October 5 and 6.
What happened?
The team will be led by brothers Edgar David Alonso Escobedo and David Alejandro Alonso Escobedo. “The opponent to beat is ourselves”, said head coach Edgar David, when asked about the rivals to beat in the Guadalajara tournament.
Why is it important for Queretaro?
Flag football will be part of the sports that make up the Olympic program in Los Angeles 2028, so developing a team that can nurture the Mexican selection will be one of the objectives of Gallos Negros. “We know we are pioneers and that fills us with responsibility. We want to be an example for the girls who start playing this sport, to see that it's possible to go far”, said Dulce Reyes, a player for Gallos Negros.
What's next for Gallos Negros?
The team will seek to represent Queretaro in the National Tournament in Guadalajara, and later, will seek to compete in other national and international tournaments. | Tournament | Date | | National Tournament | October 5 and 6 |
